Bamburgh Castle
Bamburgh Castle stands on a rocky basalt outcrop on the Northumberland North Sea Coast. Site of ancient fortress destroyed by the Vikings, re-built by the Normans and re-structured by Lord Armstrong in Victorian times.
Thanks Hilda; the concrete blocks are old World War 2 defences which were designed to hinder any German tanks that tried to land on the beach. Thankfully no German invasion took place. So we have a very old defensive construction in the background and relatively new ones from about 1940 in the foreground. Someone decided to paint the anti-tank blocks to look like dice.kind regards, Charles
One of my favourite locations! Been there many times - usually with a party of holidaying schoolchildren. The tour of the castle in the morning followed by an afternoon down below on the glorious beach always made for a brilliant day!
This is the kind of castle and location that I always imagine when I read fantasy stories. Fantastic!
