Blyth Cemetery


 29,994 sailors of the British Merchant Navy ( non-combatants) died during World War II. Blyth Cemetery in Northumberland contains the graves of   4  unidentified seamen of the Merchant Navy.

  1. In all the many CWGC portland stone headstones I have looked at, I cannot recall seeing one for the MN. Never really thought about it until I saw this photo. Although I do know someone who was MN in the Falklands and was sunk twice, he was really put out when I said did they welcome him aboard the third ship! I was a regular but had left before the Falklands, else I would have gone too. This headstone looks in very good condition compared to some I have seen lately.
