In the United Kingdom the second Sunday of November is marked by ceremonies at local war memorials . Wreaths of poppies are laid in memory of the fallen and a two minutes' silence is held at 11 a.m.

The memorial at Tynemouth, shown here, is made of white granite and was unveiled in 1920.
